Move Forward!
Exodus 14:15,  And the LORD said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.”
I’m sure we’ve all seen the movie The Ten Commandments, and especially the Cecil B. DeMille version starring the actor Charlton Heston. What’s probably the most moving and awesome scene is when God opens the Red Sea so that the children of Israel can walk on dry ground and escape pharaoh and his army, and to continue on to reach the Promise Land.
Now, imagine, here is Moses and the millions of children of Israel at the banks of the Red Sea. The RED SEA! This is no small body of water. It’s not a brook, a lake or a stream – but a HUGE body of water, looking IMPOSSIBLE to get on the other side of it. So you have the Red Sea on one side and pharaoh and his army who are in HOT pursuit of you on the other side. And here come the complaints from the children of Israel who are in the middle! In Exodus 14:11, “Then they said to Moses, “Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you so dealt with us, to bring us up out of Egypt? 12 Is this not the word that we told you in Egypt, saying, ‘Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than that we should die in the wilderness.”
Now, it would seem to me that that would be a fine time to start crying out to God, as Moses did, but notice God’s response! In the 15th verse, God answered Moses and said, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.”   I could imagine God was saying, “Yes, you’re at the Red Sea, pharaoh is coming with his axmen and the doubt and pressure from the children of Israel is mounting. While it may look impossible to get out of this situation alive, I promised to take you to the Promise Land, and this isn’t it! While everything looks TOTALLY IMPOSSIBLE, you’re going to have to move FORWARD on My Word that I’ve spoken to get to where I’m taking you!”
Wherever you are in life, what has God promised you? If you haven’t reached your “Promised Land” yet, if you’re not where God said that He was taking you – no matter what it looks like – keep moving FORWARD on His Word!
As the late-James Cleveland once said, “I don’t believe He brought me this far, just to leave me.”
